Resident Life

We’ve designed a program with resident life as a top priority.

Residents

Program Design

We understand that each resident that enters our program has different learning goals and expectations. Our curriculum is built with that in mind. Residents have the opportunity to design individualized educational experiences to align with their career goals.

Curriculum

Resident Wellbeing

Our program is committed to the wellbeing of our residents. We strive to continuously find ways to promote and enhance resident well-being, combat burnout, and help our residents find meaning in medicine. The knowledge and skills necessary to maintain resilience, and experience joy during training, is an essential foundation for future success not only in everyday life, but future practice as well. Visit the link below to learn more about our program’s wellness initiatives.

Resident Wellness

Resident Leadership

We feel strongly that it is important for our program to remain resident-driven. Our residents work closely with faculty and program leadership to develop and design the academic curriculum and clinical experiences. We also understand the importance of growing our residents into strong leaders. Our residents attend annual class leadership retreats and are provided ample opportunities to serve as leaders including serving on hospital committees, teaching history and physical examination skills to medical students, serving on UND medical school committees, and serving as an elected resident representative.

Resident Representatives

Multicultural Education

We believe that a diverse collection of providers and patient encounters lead to stronger research and educational experiences for our residents, better care for our patients, and ultimately, important advances in the field of medicine. As such, we are committed to recruiting residents from all backgrounds and providing them with the knowledge, skills, resources, and opportunities needed to become culturally-competent and socially-responsible physicians on a variety of patient populations.

Camaraderie with Fellow Residents

We strive to foster an environment of support within our program and institution. Residents can expect to experience a collegial, experiential, and hands-on learning environment inclusive of peers not only in our TY program, but also from the University of North Dakota’s numerous other residency and fellowship programs (Transitional Year, Psychiatry, Family Medicine, Neurology, Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Hematology-Oncology, and Geriatric Medicine). The camaraderie felt among residents in all these programs is frequently noted and is something we are proud to highlight.
