Clinical Rotations

Required Clinical Rotations and Other Learning Experiences

The curriculum for the Internal Medicine Residency Program of the University of North Dakota School of Medicine & Health Sciences is designed to meet ACGME accreditation standards and ABIM requirements for graduates. We individualize each resident's schedule to ensure an optimal clinical experience based on career goals.

Required Clinical Rotations and Sample Schedules

The following clinical rotations are required (excluding PGY-4):

  1. Five blocks Inpatient Internal Medicine
  2. Resident Continuity Clinic
  3. One block Critical Care Medicine
  4. One block (2 half-blocks) Night Float
  5. One block Ambulatory Medicine includes one week of self-study
  6. One block Quality & Safety
  7. Two Electives divided between blocks

Continuity Clinic

Our resident continuity clinic is located at our Broadway clinic downtown Fargo. The clinic serves a diverse patient population from varied cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Residents are assigned to a clinic team made up of a first year, second year, and third year resident. Residents care for a panel of patients longitudinally throughout their three years. Residents are in clinic for a one week period of time every four to six weeks.
