Director's Message
Welcome, and thank you for your interest in the Internal Medicine Residency Program at the UND School of Medicine and Health Sciences in Bismarck.
Choosing the right residency is one of the most important decisions in your medical
career. Our program offers a unique opportunity to train in a supportive, community-focused
environment where the impact of your work is deeply felt and highly valued. We are
proud to serve a diverse patient population across rural and underserved areas of
North Dakota, allowing you to gain broad clinical experience while making a meaningful
difference in the lives of those who need care the most.
Our training emphasizes high-quality, patient-centered, and cost-effective care. With strong mentorship, a collegial atmosphere, and a culture rooted in wellness, we are committed to helping you thrive both professionally and personally. You'll have the opportunity to work closely with dedicated faculty, engage in hands-on learning across a variety of settings, and explore your interests through electives, research, and leadership opportunities.
We also embrace innovation. From incorporating telehealth to addressing healthcare disparities, our program is preparing residents to lead in a rapidly evolving healthcare landscape.
Whether your goal is to practice primary care, work as a hospitalist caring for patients across a wide range of subspecialties or pursue fellowship training, we are here to support your path and help you build a strong foundation for a fulfilling career in internal medicine.
In addition to exceptional training, Bismarck offers an outstanding quality of life. As North Dakota’s capital city, it provides a safe, welcoming, and family-friendly environment with access to outdoor recreation, a low cost of living, and a strong sense of community. The balance between professional growth and personal well-being is one of the key strengths of our program, and we believe it helps shape not only excellent physicians but well-rounded individuals.
We look forward to meeting you and sharing what makes our program, and our community, so special.
Warm regards,
Amir Kichloo, M.D.
