Program Director's Message
Dear Prospective Resident,

Thank you for your interest in our program. We are proud to offer a year of clinical training that balances rigorous fundamental skills in inpatient and ambulatory care with the flexibility required to prepare you for your future specialty.
An Integrated Clinical Experience
Our program is a collaboration between the UND School of Medicine & Health Sciences and Sanford Health in Fargo, N.D. We are also closely affiliated with the Fargo VA Health Care System, which provides a unique perspective on chronic disease management and quality care for our veteran population. Together, these institutions offer a rich, community-based training environment.
Curriculum & Personalization
We believe a physician’s foundation should be versatile. Our curriculum includes:
-
Core Rotations: Four blocks of Inpatient Internal Medicine; one block each in Critical Care, Emergency Medicine, and Ambulatory Care.
-
Focused Skills: Dedicated time for Night Medicine and Research & Scholarly Activity.
-
Flexibility: Five elective blocks allow you to tailor your year to your specific categorical goals.
The POCUS Advantage
A hallmark of our training is the longitudinal Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) curriculum. Every graduate of our program has the opportunity to achieve clinical proficiency in POCUS, integrating bedside imaging into daily patient care—a skill that will serve you regardless of your eventual specialty.
The Offsite Advantage
Unique to our program, we provide the opportunity to spend up to two weeks of your final block at a site of your choosing within the continental United States. Many residents use this time to rotate at their future categorical training program, providing protected time to acclimatize and ensure a seamless transition to the next phase of their careers.
Your Future Starts Here
Our training has a proven track record of excellence. Not only do our alumni report feeling exceptionally well-prepared for their categorical disciplines, but their connection to our community remains strong; over the last two decades, 30 percent of our alumni have returned to North Dakota to practice and share their expertise.
If you value professional excellence, a supportive peer community, and the welcoming atmosphere of a thriving city, we look forward to meeting you.
