Graduate Student Opportunities

Funding for Graduate Students to Disseminate Scholarly Work

UND OTD students are eligible to apply for a variety of funding options to assist in costs related to disseminating scholarly work (travel, lodging, conference registration). The following provides a summary of resources available:

Occupational Therapy Department Dissemination Funding accepts applications for $500–$1,000 for conference fees and travel. The amount of the award will be based on number of applicants, annual amount of funding available, and role in the work (co-author, primary, secondary).

  • Program Details
    • Travel costs will be reimbursed according to standard UND procedures. Only travel costs deemed as allowable by UND will be reimbursed.
    • Only one request per student will be considered each academic year.
    • Notification of funding will be made within two weeks of submission.
    • Applicants are encouraged to apply as soon as they are accepted to present.
  • Eligibility Requirements
    • Applicants must be enrolled in the UND OT Doctoral program.
    • Applicants must be enrolled at the time the work is presented.
      • Students who have graduated or are on leave of absence at the time of the conference presentation are not eligible.
    • Applicants must be in good academic standing.
    • Applicants must be a presenting author of the work.
  • Apply
    • Complete the small grants application.
    • Attach a confirmation letter or email that your work has been accepted for presentation.
    • Attach a copy of the abstract of the work that is being presented.
    • Budget for cost of conference registration, travel, and hotel.
    • Applications will be due on the 15th of each month with the exception of December and May they will be due the 5th of the month. A 2-week turnaround period for each review of applications- accepted and track funding provided. Committee is to review and approve amount and notify chair; Office manager will disburse funds.

School of Medicine and Health Sciences accepts applications for funding through the Associate Dean for Education, Medical Accreditation, and Faculty Affairs or the Associate Dean for Research. Please contact the Occupational Therapy Department Chair for more details.

School of Graduate Studies offers travel grants, doctoral research grants, and traineeships. Please see School of Graduate Studies.

The Center for Rural Health provides scholarships for students wanting to attend or present at the Dakota Conference on Rural Health. The scholarship funds the cost of the registration. Students may apply for the scholarships for the registration even if they graduate in May and the conference is in June.

Graduate Teaching Assistantships and Peer Mentorships

  • The UND OT program offers unique opportunities such as the potential availability of Graduate Teaching Assistant positions and a peer mentor program. These positions are identified each year and made available to students in year 2 and 3 of the program.
