INMED offers support and advocacy for students in undergraduate and professional degree programs across the allied health sciences.
Medical Education (M.D.)
The University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences (UND SMHS) accepts students in each each medical school class who are fully qualified applicants and enrolled members of federally recognized tribes. This commitment to American Indian students has helped INMED maintain a leadership role in educating American Indian physicians. INMED personnel provide support and assistance to medical school applicants. In addition, INMED maintains educational linkages with other medical schools and can provide referral services and assist applicants in locating medical education opportunities throughout the United States.
INMED applicants are fully qualified medical school applicants and must follow the same admissions processes and deadlines as all other applicants. For more information, please visit the UND Office of Student Affairs and Admissions.
Application steps to complete:
2. UND SMHS Secondary Application and/or USD SSOM Supplemental Application
- Provided by school after receipt of primary AMCAS application
3. INMED Application, including
- Autobiographical sketch
- Letter of Recommendation from Tribal Member/Representative
- Documentation of tribal enrollment from a federally recognized tribe

Indigenous Health Ph.D.

Physical Therapy
The Department of Physical Therapy offers a six-year Doctor of Physical Therapy (D.P.T.) program. The Indians Into Medicine program at UND supports qualified students who wish to pursue an education in Physical Therapy. Physical Therapy INMED Application
Occupational Therapy
Occupational Therapy (OT) practitioners are skilled professionals whose education includes the study of human growth and development with specific emphasis on the social, emotional, and physiological effects of illness and injury. OT students will complete a six-year entry-level Occupational Therapy Doctorate (O.T.D.) degree after three years of pre-professional coursework and three years of professional OT curriculum. Undergraduate and Graduate Programs
The University of North Dakota offers academic support and advising for INMED students enrolled in all allied health fields, including Nursing, Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Psychology, Counseling, Dietetics and Nutrition, Social Work, Psychology, and others. Student support includes emergency loans, tutoring, advocacy, activities and presentations, and an honoring ceremony for INMED graduates.

Public Health Program
The University of North Dakota Public Health Program is stationed at the School of Medicine and Health Sciences building on the UND campus in Grand Forks, North Dakota. The program includes a Master of Public Health in three different specializations, and an Accelerated B.S./M.P.H. degree. All of our degree options can be earned completely online, allowing students to earn a UND public health degree anywhere in the world.
