Student Scholarships
Students are invited to apply for each of the scholarships listed below.
Awardees should have a demonstrated commitment to AOTA’s centennial vision – "We envision that occupational therapy is a powerful, widely recognized, science-driven, and evidence-based profession with a globally connected and diverse workforce meeting society's occupational needs."

Submission Guidelines
Please note the following guidelines apply to all scholarships listed below:
- Applications should be submitted electronically through the Scholarship Central System. Be prepared to discuss how you will use this scholarship to enhance your future occupational therapy leadership and community service to benefit society.
- Submission letters must be less than 500 words.
- The deadline for receipt of applications is in spring semester.
- These scholarships will be awarded for the fall semester.
Amy Lind Occupational Therapy Scholarship
The UND Occupational Therapy Department is pleased to announce the establishment of the Amy Lind Scholarship Fund. This scholarship was created based on the generous bequest of Amy Lind, chair of the UND Occupational Therapy program 1956 to 1981 and alumni/friends of the Occupational Therapy program. Dr. Lind was a recognized leader of the profession and developed a strong foundation for the program to build and grow, providing services to the community and meeting the health care needs of the citizens of this region.
The Amy Lind Scholarship is intended to support students pursuing a degree in occupational therapy. It is intended to support individuals with a strong record of leadership and service to the profession and communities in which they live.
Awards
The minimum scholarship amount will be $500. The upper limit of the award will be dependent on the accumulation of returns through ongoing investment of the endowment.
Qualified Applicants
- Be enrolled (or accepted) in the UND Occupational Therapy professional program
- Demonstrate a commitment to leadership and professional involvement
- Demonstrate leadership and community service
- Demonstrate a sustained record of outstanding academic achievement
- Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
John and Jo-Anne Jedlicka Occupational Therapy Scholarship
The Department of Occupational Therapy is pleased to announce the first year of an annual application for the John and Jo-Anne Jedlicka Scholarship. John and Jo-Anne were very compassionate people who strove to volunteer of themselves both financially and physically in the communities they were members of. This scholarship was created in honor and memory of their lives and giving spirits based on an endowment donated by Jane A. Aitken and Janet S. Jedlicka, daughters of John and Jo-Anne. This scholarship is designed to enrich the potential of students who, through sharing their varied cultural perspectives, will enhance the education of all students. The scholarship is awarded on a competitive basis with emphasis on cultural diversity and/or financial need. Culturally diverse may be defined as persons of different age, persons with disabilities, and/or life experiences; or individuals of different cultural, racial or ethnic heritage, especially historically underrepresented groups (African American, American Indian, Asian American or Hispanic). Occupational therapy students with a demonstrated financial need and who intend to practice among a diverse population after earning their degree are also encouraged to apply.
The John and Jo-Anne Jedlicka Scholarship was created to support students demonstrating a financial need while pursuing a degree in occupational therapy. It is intended to offer financial assistance to individuals in supporting cultural diversity through leadership and service to both the profession and the community in which they live.

Matt and Katrin Hjalmarson Scholarship
The Department of Occupational Therapy is pleased to announce the annual application for the Matt and Katrin Hjalmarson Scholarship. This scholarship is based on an endowment donated by Margaret R. Lesher in honor and memory of her parents. Students from underserved populations are encouraged to apply. The scholarship is awarded on a competitive basis with an emphasis on financial need. Occupational therapy students with a demonstrated financial need and who have shown service and leadership in the occupational therapy profession are encouraged to apply.
The Matt and Katrin Hjalmarson Scholarship was created to support students demonstrating a financial need while pursuing a degree in occupational therapy. It is intended to offer financial assistance to individuals in supporting leadership and service to both the profession and the community in which they live.

Gail Shimer Bass Occupational Therapy Scholarship
The University of North Dakota Occupational Therapy Department is pleased to announce the establishment of the Dr. Gail Bass Scholarship Fund. This scholarship was created based on the generous donation of Rev. Gerald R. Bass. Dr. Bass served the UND Occupational Therapy program from 1998 to her retirement in 2014. She is recognized as an excellent educator and a leader in the occupational therapy profession specializing in pediatrics.
The Gail Bass Occupational Therapy Scholarship is intended to support students pursuing a degree in occupational therapy. First preference for this scholarship shall be given to students interested in practicing in a school-‐based setting. Second preference shall be given to students pursing a practice in pediatric occupational therapy.

Kriegel and Gorter Family Occupational Health Student Scholarship
The UND Occupational Therapy Department is pleased to announce the establishment of the Kriegel and Gorter Family Occupational Therapy Scholarship. This scholarship was created based on a generous endowment donated by Bethel Bank.
The Kriegel and Gorter Family Occupational Health Student Scholarship was created to support students pursuing a degree in occupational therapy. It is intended to offer financial assistance to second or third year occupational health students.
Awards
The minimum scholarship amount will be $500. The upper limit of the award will be dependent on the accumulation of returns through ongoing investment of the endowment.
Qualified Applicants
- Be enrolled (or accepted) in the University of North Dakota Occupational Therapy professional program
- Be considered a second or third year OT student in the fall semester
- Demonstrate a financial need (financial need will be determined by the UND Financial Aid office and will be based on the FAFSA application for financial aid.)
- Demonstrate a commitment to leadership and service in the Occupational Therapy field
- Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
Occupational Therapy Alumni Scholarship
The UND Occupational Therapy Department is pleased to announce the establishment of the Occupational Therapy Alumni Scholarship. This scholarship was created based on the generous donations from alumni of the UND OT program. There are many reasons alumni give back -- to show appreciation for the education and development the OT program provided them; to provide others with a similar experience; to stay connected to the OT department; and even to capture the social and emotional benefits associated with being a donor. No matter the reasoning behind the donation, the gifts given to the occupational therapists of the future are of utmost importance. The monies to support this scholarship were donated by those who give back, and thus, the spirit of this scholarship reflects this.
The Occupational Therapy Alumni Scholarship is intended to support students pursuing a degree in occupational therapy. It is intended to support students with future plans to give back to their communities and the university as a representative of the UND OT program. It is also intended to support individuals with a strong record of leadership and service to the profession and communities in which they live.

The Katherine Bangsund Occupational Therapy Scholarship
The University of North Dakota Occupational Therapy Department is pleased to announce the establishment of the Katherine Bangsund Occupational Therapy Scholarship Fund. This scholarship was created based on the generous donation of Katherine Bangsund who graduated with her B.S. in OT from UND in 1972 and has since accumulated over 46 years of diverse OT experience. In addition, she has been giving back to the program for over 30 years.
The Katherine Bangsund Occupational Therapy Scholarship is intended to support students pursuing a degree in occupational therapy. it was created to offer financial assistance to occupational therapy students who exhibit a passion for the field of occupational therapy and who achieve a 3.5 GPA or above.
Awards
The minimum scholarship amount will be $500. The upper limit of the award will be dependent on the accumulation of returns through ongoing investment of the endowment.
Qualified Applicants
- Be enrolled (or accepted) in the University of North Dakota Occupational Therapy professional program
- Demonstrate a sustained record of outstanding academic achievement as shown by a GPA of 3.5 or above
- Demonstrate a passion for the field of occupational therapy
- Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
The Wesley Hoffman Memorial Occupational Therapy Scholarship
The Department of Occupational Therapy is pleased to announce the annual application for the Wesley Hoffman Memorial OT Scholarship. This scholarship is based on an endowment bequeathed by Mr. Hoffman in appreciate for past care received from caring and compassionate UND-educated therapists after suffering from a severe brain stem stroke. At this time he was told by physicians that he would not walk again. After collaborating with occupational and physical therapists, he was able to walk himself out of the hospital. His therapists had such a wonderful and profound impact on his life and well being that he wanted to make a difference in the lives of future therapists. Thus, Mr. Hoffman left a scholarship endowment to the UND Occupational Therapy Department. The scholarship is awarded on a competitive basis with an emphasis on service and leadership within the state of North Dakota. Students from the state of North Dakota are especially encouraged to apply.
The Wesley Hoffman Memorial OT Scholarship was created to provide for students pursuing a degree in occupational therapy. It is intended to support individuals with either a strong record of leadership and service to the profession and the state of North Dakota and/or ideas for their future commitments to leadership and service in North Dakota. The awardee should have a demonstrated commitment to AOTA’s centennial vision.

The Audrey Crum Occupational Therapy Scholarship
The UND Occupational Therapy Department is pleased to announce the establishment of the Audrey Crum Occupational Therapy Scholarship. This scholarship was created based on a generous endowment donated by Audrey Crum who desired to support the ongoing growth and development of the University of North Dakota.
The Audrey Crum Occupational Therapy Scholarship was created to support students pursuing a degree in occupational therapy and is intended to offer financial support to such students.
Awards
The minimum scholarship amount will be $500. The upper limit of the award will be dependent on the accumulation of returns through ongoing investment of the endowment.
