Wellness @SMHS
Well-being and wellness at the UND School of Medicine & Health Sciences.
Caring for others is difficult. Knowing that their patients' health, and even their lives, is at stake means many medical students, physician assistants, and other health providers struggle with stress, burnout, and mental illness.
All of this makes caring for your own mental and physical health critical.
Recognizing that each student has their own way of coping with stress, and their own personal (and evolving) definition of well-being, the UND School of Medicine & Health Sciences provides students with two wellness advocates trained to empower students to define and strive towards their own sense of well-being and bring their full selves to their work as health providers.
Our team follows the eight-spoked Wellness Wheel model, helping students understand that wellness is not just physical but includes social, spiritual, intellectual, financial, environmental, occupational, and emotional components.
