Mission, Goals, and Objectives

Program Mission

The University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship Program located at Sanford Health is committed to creating an
experiential learning environment in the field of cardiology that promotes knowledge, skills and compassion alongside exceptional patient care. Our rigorous clinical training
program emphasizes the enhancement of patients’ lives, promoting collaboration, and encouraging lifelong learning within an evolving healthcare landscape.

Program Goals and Objectives

  1. Comprehensive Clinical Training: The primary site is a tertiary care referral center where fellows will be provided with a diverse and extensive clinical training experience across various subspecialties of cardiology, including interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, heart failure, and preventive cardiology.
  2. Research Excellence: We intend to foster a culture of scholarly inquiry and research by encouraging fellows to participate in clinical and basic science research projects leading to presentations at national conferences and publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  3. Educational Innovation: Utilize innovative teaching methods and simulation technologies to enhance fellows' understanding and application of cardiovascular diagnostics, interventions, and patient care strategies.
  4. Leadership Development: Equip fellows with leadership skills through mentorship opportunities, participation in quality improvement initiatives, organizational committees and involvement in professional societies and committees.
  5. Patient-Centered Care: Emphasize compassionate and patient-centered care through dedicated training in communication skills, ethics, and cultural competence, ensuring fellows are adept at addressing the diverse needs of cardiovascular patients.
  6. Community Engagement: Engage fellows in community-based cardiovascular health initiatives and outreach programs to promote preventive care and cardiovascular wellness among diverse populations. These aims collectively support the mission of producing skilled and compassionate cardiologists who contribute significantly to patient care, research advancements, and leadership within the field of cardiovascular medicine.
