Director's Message
Welcome to our fully accredited UND School of Medicine & Health Sciences Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship Program!
Dear Future Fellows,

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the University of North Dakota (UND) School of Medicine and Health Sciences Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship. As the Program Director of the University of North Dakota Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship at Sanford Medical Center Fargo, I am thrilled to introduce our brand-new, fully accredited fellowship program, which will welcome its inaugural class of fellows in July 2026.
Our program is designed to provide rigorous and comprehensive training experience, ensuring that fellows graduate with the expertise and confidence necessary to excel as clinicians in the field of cardiovascular medicine. As a university-sponsored, community-based program, we offer a dynamic learning environment that combines high-quality patient care with academic excellence. Fellows will benefit from training at Sanford Health in Fargo, N.D., the largest teaching hospital within the UND SMHS system and the premier cardiovascular center in North Dakota.
With a catchment area spanning multiple states and serving a diverse patient population, our fellows will gain exposure to a wide spectrum of cardiovascular conditions, including complex coronary and structural heart disease, advanced heart failure, electrophysiology, and preventive cardiology. Our faculty consists of highly experienced and dedicated educators who are passionate about mentoring the next generation of cardiovascular specialists. Fellows will work closely with a team of general and interventional cardiologists, electrophysiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, and skilled advanced practice providers and will play a pivotal role in delivering exceptional patient care.
Research and scholary activity are fundamental components of our training program. Both UND and Sanford Health provide extensive resources to support fellows in their research endeavors. Whether engaging in clinical trials, quality improvement initiatives, or translational research, fellows will have the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of cardiovascular medicine. Our collaborative environment fosters innovation and interdisciplinary learning, with regular conferences, subspecialty case discussions, and dedicated teaching sessions to enhance both clinical acumen and procedural skills.
At its core, our program is built on a culture of collaboration, patient-centered care, and professional growth. We pride ourselves on fostering an environment where fellows feel supported but also challenged to reach their full potential. As a new program, we are committed to continuously evolving and adapting to meet the needs of our fellows and the patients we serve.
We are excited about the journey ahead and invite you to explore all that our program has to offer. If you have any questions regarding the fellowship or the application process, please feel free to reach out to our Program Administrator, Lauren Blake, MPA. We look forward to meeting you and welcoming you our UND-Sanford Health family.
Sincerely,
Thomas Haldis, D.O.
