Sara received her Bachelor of Science degree in athletic training from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, N.D., and Master of Science degree in exercise science from Northern Michigan University in Marquette. Mich. After grad school, Sara moved back to Grand Forks and was employed at Altru Health System, where her primary responsibility was to provide service to Grand Forks Red River High School. After 17 years, Sara made the jump back to university life and has been at UND since 2014 in a dual role as assistant professor/advisor and athletic trainer. Sara has served the athletic training profession in a variety of roles. Currently she serves on the North Dakota Board of Athletic Trainers, the NDATA Education Committee, MAATA District 5 Secretary, MAATA Honor & Awards Committee, and the NATAPAC Board of Directors. In 2016, she was awarded the NATA Service Award, and in 2018 received the MAATA Ethnically Diverse and Female Recognition Award.

Jason is the Sports Physical Therapy Manager at the Sanford POWER Center in Fargo, N.D. He graduated from the University of North Dakota with a Master of Physical Therapy degree in 1994. He went on to earn a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree in 2005. Jason has been employed as a physical therapist at Sanford in Fargo since 1997 with an emphasis in outpatient orthopedics and sports injuries. He became a board certified clinical specialist in sports physical therapy in 2014 as issued by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. He has advanced training with running evaluation and injuries, overuse injuries, biomechanical assessment, and is also an ASTYM certified provider. He has worked with many professional, collegiate, and recreational athletes throughout his career. Jason is an active member in the APTA including the Orthopedic and Sports Physical Therapy sections.

Dr. Alicia Champagne is currently an assistant professor and athletic trainer within the Department of Sports Medicine at UND. She also serves as the clinical education coordinator for the Athletic Training Program. She received her Ph.D. in educational foundations and research from UND with a concentration on educational foundations in 2019. Originally from Waconia, Minn., Dr. Champagne has worked with a variety of sports, including gymnastics, volleyball, basketball, baseball, and tennis. Since 2014, she has been providing athletic training coverage to the UND Women’s Soccer team.

Greg Greek, M.D., is a sports medicine specialist in Grand Forks, N.D., and has over 36 years of experience in the medical field. He graduated from University of North Dakota School of Medicie in 1985. He is affiliated with Altru Hospital. Dr. Greek is a Board Certified American Board of Family Medicine and Board Certified American Board of Primary Care Sports Medicine.

As an assistant professor of physical therapy, Dr. Halcrow teaches in the areas of biomechanics and kinesiology, clinical examination, and evaluation and exercise interventions. He also serves as co-director of clinical education for the Department of Physical Therapy at UND. Dr. Halcrow is Astym Therapy certified, an APTA Credentialed Clinical Instructor, and earned his orthopedic specialization from the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties in 2019. His areas of interest are orthopedics, sports medicine, manual therapy, biomechanics, and kinesiology.

Erin Haugen, Ph.D., LP, CMPC, is a licensed clinical psychologist and sport psychologist in Grand Forks, N.D. She is passionate about performance psychology, athlete mental health, interprofessional practice, and professional well-being. Dr. Haugen has a doctorate in clinical psychology and is a Certified Mental Performance Consultant® (CMPC) through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology. She works with elite athletes (collegiate, Olympic, professional) from over 20 different sports and specializes in working with athletic departments, student-athletes, coaches, and staff at the collegiate level (NCAA Division I, II, and III; NAIA). Dr. Haugen is employed at Assessment and Therapy Associates of Grand Forks and is the Director for Mental Health and Performance Psychology in the UND Department of Sports Medicine and Athletics. She is an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Psychology at the University of North Dakota and former faculty member (2016-2020) at Altru Family Medicine Residency.

Jennifer M. Haugen is a registered dietitian-nutritionist currently working for Altru Health System within the Sanny and Jerry Ryan Center for Prevention and Genetics in Grand Forks, N.D. Her main areas of focus at Altru include: weight management, health promotion, sports nutrition, and preventative health. Jennifer has over 19 years of experience as a registered dietitian in the Grand Forks area with over 10 years in the health and wellness field. She is a Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) a credential she has held since July 2011. She has also completed training in adult weight management. Since obtaining her registered dietitian degree in 2002 from North Dakota State University, she has had the privilege of working with the United States Air Force, the University of North Dakota Wellness Center, Altru Hospital, and Valley Memorial Homes. What she likes most about her current position is the variety of opportunities to work with the community to spread the message about good nutrition and helping her patients reach their goals and celebrate their successes.

Morgan graduated from NDSU in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in university studies with a health science emphasis. She went on to graduate from the Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences in 2018 with a doctorate in physical therapy. She then entered the University of North Dakota’s sports physical therapy residency program, where she was employed at the UND Center for Sports Medicine. During residency, Morgan provided care for contact and non-contact athletic injuries sustained during NCAA Division I competition. She provided sideline coverage for UND athletics events, as well as progressed patients from injury or surgery through return to sport rehabilitation. She also completed research regarding groin strains in hockey that was presented at the 2020 Combined Sections Meeting. Morgan became a Sports Certified Clinical Specialist (SCS) in 2020. Morgan is also an APTA certified clinical instructor and holds certifications in dry needling, Grey Institute Functional Golf Systems, and as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS).

Travis obtained his degree in occupational therapy from the University of North Dakota and became a Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) in 2004 and Astym certified in 2014. He is currently employed at Altru Health System and specializes in upper extremity rehabilitation. Travis instructs the elbow and wrist/hand content within the sports physical therapy residency.

Ricky attended the University of North Dakota, in Grand Forks where he graduated as a Doctor of Physical Therapy in 2015. He has worked primarily in outpatient orthopedic clinics, specializing in back and neck pain, post-surgical conditions, chronic pain, and treating multiple musculoskeletal/sports injuries involving, but not limited to, the foot/ankle, knee, hip, shoulder, and elbow. He is certified in the McKenzie Method of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (Cert. MDT), which is an evidence-based assessment and management system for patients with spinal and extremity problems. He is a Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Orthopedic Physical Therapy (OCS) through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) section of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). Ricky is an assistant professor at the University of North Dakota in the Department of Physical Therapy and the Assistant Program Director in the Sports Physical Therapy Residency. He teaches manual therapy, exercise progressions, intervention techniques, and advanced evaluation and assessment systems.

David Relling, P.T., Ph.D., is associate dean for health sciences and professor at the UND School of Medicine & Health Sciences. Dr. Relling received his bachelor's in physical therapy and Ph.D. in pharmacology, physiology, and therapeutics from the University of North Dakota and obtained a Master's degree in kinesiology from Kansas State University. He teaches pharmacology and imaging in the sports PT residency.

Dr. Gary Schindler is currently an associate professor of physical therapy and Director of the Sports Physical Therapy Residency. His education includes: B.A. in athletic training, University of North Dakota; M.S.P.T. University of Wisconsin-La Crosse; D.P.T. Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professionals; and Ph.D., Teaching and Learning at UND. Dr. Schindler was recognized by ABPTS as an orthopedic Certified Specialist in 2008 and Sports Certified Specialist in 2015. Dr. Schindler currently serves as the program director for the SMHS Sports Physical Therapy Residency. He also practices as a physical therapist and certified athletic trainer, PRN, in an orthopedic private practice. His areas of teaching include orthopedics, sports medicine, anatomy, and therapeutic agents. Research interest areas include leadership development, sports medicine, orthopedics, and anatomy.

Jake is fellowship trained in Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy (AAOMPT), a certified athletic trainer, and Board certified sports physical therapist (ABPTS). He Joined UND in 2015 and serves as a physical therapist in the Center for Sports Medicine, an outpatient physical therapy clinic within the Dept. of Sports Medicine, providing physical therapy services for UND and the Grand Forks area. Jake is an assistant professor in the Dept. of Sports Medicine and assists with the UND Sports Physical Therapy Residency. He is also faculty for AAMT and Dry Needling institute teaching continuing education courses in dry needling.

Dr. Westereng obtained his undergraduate degree from UND in 1994 in athletic training, a Master of Exercise Physiology degree from the University of Minnesota 1997, and his Ph.D. in higher education from UND in 2019. Dr. Westereng is currently an associate professor and chair of the UND Department of Sports Medicine. The Department oversees the accredited athletic training education program as well as clinical experiences of physical therapy students and residents, family medicine residents and fellows, as well as medical students. The Department also provides healthcare services for 350 student-athletes on 17 teams, which Dr. Westereng oversees as serving at the NCAA Institutional Healthcare Officer.

Cathy is board certified as an athletic trainer (1987), physical therapist (1989), and Sports Certified Specialist (2015). Cathy joined the UND community in 1991 with the opening of the UND Center for Sports Medicine. She has served as the clinic coordinator for the outpatient physical therapy clinic, which specializes in orthopedics and sports medicine. The clinic services UND and the greater Grand Forks Communities. In addition to her clinical duties, Cathy serves as an instructor in the athletic training program.
