David was born and raised in Devils Lake, ND where he graduated from Devils Lake High School in 2010. David has been a certified athletic trainer since 2015 where he completed his undergraduate degree from the University of North Dakota in the Athletic Training Education Program. David completed an internship with the Indianapolis Colts of the NFL in 2014. In 2019 he returned to his alma mater and is currently an assistant professor and athletic trainer in the Department of Sports Medicine working with the football program. David holds certifications in Spinal Manipulation Therapy, Functional Movement Therapy including advanced blading techniques, and certified in Mental Health First Aid. David and his wife Samantha have been married since 2019. They have two children, Alexis and Ellie.

Sara received her Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, N.D., and Master of Science degree in Exercise Science from Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Mich. After grad school, Sara moved back to Grand Forks and was employed at Altru Health System, where her primary responsibility was to provide service to Grand Forks Red River High School. After 17 years, Sara made the jump back to university life and has been at UND since 2014 in a dual role as assistant professor/advisor and athletic trainer. Sara has served the athletic training profession in a variety of roles. Currently she serves on the North Dakota Board of Athletic Trainers, MAATA Honor & Awards Committee and is MAATA District 5 Secretary. In 2016, she was awarded the NATA Service Award, in 2018 was the recipient of the MAATA Ethnically Diverse and Female Recognition Award, and in 2022 was elected to the North Dakota Athletic Trainers Association Hall of Fame.

Greg Greek, M.D., is a sports medicine specialist in Grand Forks, N.D., and has over 36 years of experience in the medical field. He graduated from University of North Dakota School of Medicie in 1985. He is affiliated with Altru Hospital. Dr. Greek is a Board Certified American Board of Family Medicine and Board Certified American Board of Primary Care Sports Medicine.

Assistant Professor of Physical Therapy, Director of Clinical Education, PT, DPT, University of North Dakota. Dr. Halcrow teaches in the areas of, clinical examination and evaluation, exercise interventions, and prevention and wellness. Dr. Halcrow is a Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy, a APTA Credential Clinical Instructor and is Astym Therapy Certified. He was the Co-Director of Clinical Education from 2021-2023 and is currently the Director of Clinical Education for the Department of Physical Therapy. His areas of interest are orthopaedics, sports medicine, prevention and wellness, biomechanics, and kinesiology. Dr. Halcrow is currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in Teaching and Learning with an Emphasis in Higher Education with a research agenda in diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Erin Haugen, PhD, LP, CMPC, is a Licensed Psychologist and Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) in Grand Forks, ND, with over 15 years experience in elite sport focusing on mental health and performance psychology. She consults with elite athletes (collegiate, Olympic, professional) from over 20 different sports and specializes in working with athletes, coaches, sports medicine professionals, and staff at the collegiate level. She also works with athletic departments and organizations to develop programming, policies, and procedures to foster whole-system health. She was awarded the Jack Weakley Award of Distinction in 2023 for her lifetime contributions to athletics, athletic training, and sports medicine. She is currently researching a program to improve psychological readiness to return to sport post-injury and implementing a comprehensive program to assist collegiate student-athletes with the transition to athletic retirement.
Dr. Haugen is the Director of Mental Health and Performance Psychology for the University of North Dakota Athletics and Sports Medicine Departments and an adjunct faculty member in Psychology. She is also the Founder & CEO of Haugen Performance Consulting, and provides individual athlete consultations at Assessment and Therapy Associates of Grand Forks. She provides mental health and performance psychology training to sports medicine fellows, athletic training students, and licensed mental health professionals working with athletes. In her spare time, she enjoys racing bikes, competing in triathlons, and spending time with her husband and three herding mix rescue dogs: Fromm, Eddie, and Bella.

Jennifer Haugen is a registered dietitian nutritionist and owner of Northern Edge Nutrition, LLC and has over 22 years of experience as a registered dietitian in the Grand Forks area with over 15 years in the health and wellness field. She is one of four Board Certified Specialists in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) in the state of North Dakota, a credential she has held since July 2011. She has also completed training in adult weight management through the Commission on Dietetics Registration. Since obtaining her registered dietitian degree in 2002 from North Dakota State University, she has had the privilege of working with the United States Air Force, the University of North Dakota Wellness Center, University of North Dakota Athletics, Altru, and Valley Memorial Homes. Her greatest joys are helping her clients learn nutrition strategies to help them live their healthiest lives and mentoring and precepting students. In addition to her dietitian work, she also serves as a senior philanthropy specialist at Altru Foundation.

Travis obtained his degree in occupational therapy from the University of North Dakota and became a Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) in 2004 and Astym certified in 2014. He is currently employed at Altru Health System and specializes in upper extremity rehabilitation. Travis instructs the elbow and wrist/hand content within the sports physical therapy residency.

Ricky attended the University of North Dakota where he graduated as a Doctor of Physical Therapy in 2015. He received his PhD in Educational Foundations and Research with a concentration in Research Methodologies in 2024. His research interests include physical wellness of the athlete, return to sport testing, sports performance, and sports rehabilitation. He owns MORGAiN Physical Therapy where he specializes in treating athletes and active adults. Other specialties include: back and neck pain, chronic pain, and musculoskeletal/sports injuries. He is a Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Orthopedic Physical Therapy (OCS) through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) section of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). Ricky’s unique treatment approaches include Functional Dry Needling (FDN), Blood Flow Restriction (BFR), BlazePod training, and the McKenzie Method of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (Cert. MDT). He is an Assistant Professor at the University of North Dakota in the Department of Physical Therapy and the Assistant Program Director in the Sports Physical Therapy Residency. His areas of teaching include orthopedics, sports medicine, manual therapy, biomechanics, and advanced movement systems assessment and intervention.

Morgan graduated from NDSU in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in university studies with a health science emphasis. She went on to graduate from the Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences in 2018 with a doctorate in physical therapy. She then entered the University of North Dakota’s sports physical therapy residency program, where she was employed at the UND Center for Sports Medicine. During residency, Morgan provided care for contact and non-contact athletic injuries sustained during NCAA Division I competition. She provided sideline coverage for UND athletics events, as well as progressed patients from injury or surgery through return to sport rehabilitation. She also completed research regarding groin strains in hockey that was presented at the 2020 Combined Sections Meeting. Morgan became a Sports Certified Clinical Specialist (SCS) in 2020. Morgan is also an APTA certified clinical instructor and holds certifications in dry needling, Grey Institute Functional Golf Systems, and as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS).

David Relling, P.T., Ph.D., is associate dean for health sciences and professor at the UND School of Medicine & Health Sciences. Dr. Relling received his bachelor's in physical therapy and Ph.D. in pharmacology, physiology, and therapeutics from the University of North Dakota and obtained a Master's degree in kinesiology from Kansas State University. He teaches pharmacology and imaging in the sports PT residency.

Dr. Gary Schindler is currently a professor of physical therapy and Director of the Sports Physical Therapy and Faculty Physical Therapy Residency Programs. His education includes: B.A. in athletic training, University of North Dakota; M.S.P.T. University of Wisconsin-La Crosse; D.P.T. Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professionals; and Ph.D., Teaching and Learning at UND. He is also a graduate of the Fellowship in Higher Education Leadership through the APTA. Dr. Schindler was recognized by ABPTS as an orthopedic Certified Specialist in 2008 and Sports Certified Specialist in 2015. He currently practices as a physical therapist and certified athletic trainer, PRN, in an orthopedic private practice. His areas of teaching include orthopedics, sports medicine, anatomy, and therapeutic agents. Research interest areas include leadership development, sports medicine, orthopedics, and anatomy.

Jake is fellowship trained in Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy (AAOMPT), a certified athletic trainer, and Board certified sports physical therapist (ABPTS). He Joined UND in 2015 and serves as a physical therapist in the Center for Sports Medicine, an outpatient physical therapy clinic within the Dept. of Sports Medicine, providing physical therapy services for UND and the Grand Forks area. Jake is an assistant professor in the Dept. of Sports Medicine and assists with the UND Sports Physical Therapy Residency. He is also faculty for AAMT and Dry Needling institute teaching continuing education courses in dry needling.

Dr. Westereng obtained his undergraduate degree from UND in 1994 in athletic training, a Master of Exercise Physiology degree from the University of Minnesota 1997, and his Ph.D. in higher education from UND in 2019. Dr. Westereng is currently an associate professor and chair of the UND Department of Sports Medicine. The Department oversees the accredited athletic training education program as well as clinical experiences of physical therapy students and residents, as well as medical students. The Department also provides healthcare services for 350 student-athletes on 17 teams, which Dr. Westereng oversees as serving at the NCAA Institutional Healthcare Officer.

Cathy is board certified as an athletic trainer (1987), physical therapist (1989), and Sports Certified Specialist (2015). Cathy joined the UND community in 1991 with the opening of the UND Center for Sports Medicine. She has served as the clinic coordinator for the outpatient physical therapy clinic, which specializes in orthopedics and sports medicine. The clinic services UND and the greater Grand Forks Communities. In addition to her clinical duties, Cathy serves as an instructor in the athletic training program.
