Faculty Residency

The UND School of Medicine & Health Sciences Faculty Residency is currently in the developmental phase of the accreditation process; however, is not yet accredited by the America Board of Physical Therapy Residency and Fellowship Education as a post-professional non-clinical residency program for faculty.
Our Mission:
Develop well-prepared and competent faculty by providing an innovative curriculum and mentoring in a supportive environment that fosters excellence in teaching, service, and scholarship in academia while preparing excellent future healthcare providers.

Residency Outcomes:
- The resident will demonstrate professionalism in communication, instruction, and collaboration.
- The resident will demonstrate effective teaching and communication with peers and students
- The resident will demonstrate competency in scholarship as it pertains to a professional physical therapy program
- The resident will demonstrate skills of leadership and service at the departmental, university, local, state, or national level
- Resident will demonstrate competence in governance as it pertains to the university, School of Medicine & Health Sciences, and professional physical therapy program
- Resident will anticipate and respond to the changing demands of higher education,
PT education programs, health care, and society
Residency Information:
Credentialing: The residency program is in the developmental stage. UND’s Faculty Residency is currently not accredited by ABPTRFE. UND Faculty Residency follows APTA guidelines for credentialing.
Length of Residency: 24-Months
Entrance Date: July 1 of the application year
Tuition: NONE
Salary: Resident will be a paid employee of UND and will be reimbursed approximately 70-80% of the average starting salary in the region.
Benefits: The UND Faculty Resident will receive malpractice and health insurance benefits via UND School of Medicine & Health Sciences.

Eligibility Requirements:
- Be a graduate of a CAPTE-accredited physical therapy program
- Be licensed to practice physical therapy in the state of North Dakota by the start of the residency year
- Be a practicing physical therapist a minimum of 3 years
- Be an active member of the APTA in good standing.
- Have current CPR/AED certification.
- Submit completed application by program deadline, including:

Admission Requirements/Application:

Admission Decision Date: April 1

- Postgraduate continuing education (if applicable)
- Work experience (which should include type of facility, common types of disorders treated, and percentage of time as FTE)
- Certifications / specializations
- Professional association affiliations and activities
- Honors and awards
- Presentations and publications
- Professional essay (2-3 pages) including:
1. The applicant's goals and expectations during the residency
2. Personal and professional strengths and weaknesses
3. Why you desire to complete a faculty residency
4. How you will use this residency to benefit the community and your profession
5. Short and long term personal and professional goals - Three letters of reference
Following the application process, the admission committee will determine who will be invited for a formal interview. If accepted into the UND Faculty Residency, the applicant must have a criminal background check completed and must be a licensed Physical Therapist in the state of North Dakota.
