Services for Students
The UND INMED Program offers a series of support services for students, including:
Community
INMED provides opportunities to network with other Indigenous health sciences students and alumni at social and cultural events and presentations throughout the academic year and across disciplines.
Tutoring
Tutoring is available for all INMED students. The INMED tutoring program is very helpful for students to enhance and strengthen foundations in math and science.
Honor Ceremony
INMED celebrates the accomplishments of all INMED graduates in the health professions with a traditional honoring ceremony held in conjunction with the UND Indian Association pow-wow each spring.
Conferences/Events
The INMED program offers conferences, workshops, and presentations for students, educators, and health professionals. These events have addressed such topics as IHS scholarships, continuing medical education, community health issues, research opportunities, and student wellness.
Field Experiences
During college and professional school, Indian Health Service-funded scholarship students can obtain "hands-on" experience through IHS externships at Indian Health Service facilities. INMED has assisted with placements for many students at their home reservations. The program has also placed participating students in summer research experiences that focus on Indian health needs and issues.
Student Loan Fund
INMED maintains a Stan Gaurdipee Memorial Student Loan Fund for emergency loans. The fund has helped many students remain in school through difficult times.
