Curriculum

The program's mission is to provide residents with the highest-quality educational experience, promote outstanding patient care, and support the pursuit of new scientific knowledge.

ACGME

The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) sets standards for effective educational and training programs, and monitors compliance with those standards (the Institutional and Program Requirements).

The UND Orthopedic Surgery Residency has been accredited since 2018.

ABOS KSB

Our residency program follows the standards for the education of orthopedic surgeons through the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS) Knowledge, Skills, and Behavior Program. Residents at all ACGME accredited orthopedic surgery programs who plan to participate in the ABOS Board Certification process are required to participate in the ABOS KSB Program along with meeting the education requirements.

The KSB program includes three areas of assessment to evaluate resident competence:

  • Orthopedic Knowledge – participating in the yearly Orthopedic In-Training Examination (OITE)
  • Surgical Skills – assessments by faculty on surgical skills that allow evaluation of particular cases and real-time feedback
  • Professional Behavior – assessments from faculty on professional behavior at the end of each rotation
