Mission, Goals, and Objectives

Program Mission

The University of North Dakota's Hematology and Oncology Fellowship aims to educate, mentor, and develop hematology and oncology physicians who will provide excellent healthcare to cancer and blood disorder patients in our rural and local communities while providing research to expand the knowledge of neoplastic and hematologic disease processes of all patients. This statement aligns with the University of North Dakota School of Medicine & Health Sciences Purpose Statement: "the primary purpose of the (UNDSMHS) is to educate physicians and other health professionals and to enhance the quality of life in North Dakota. Other purposes include the discovery of knowledge that benefits the people of this state and enhances the quality of their lives."

Program Goals and Objectives

The goals/objectives of the fellowship program are:

  1. To train hematologists and oncologists to provide excellent and timely care of neoplastic, hematologic, and related disorders.
  2. Create a pool of hematologists and oncologists to serve the people of the Dakotas and the adjacent regions served by our affiliated institutions.
  3. To provide an environment that supports high quality of life of our fellows and their families in the communities.
  4. To provide a framework of research and clinician training in order for fellows to obtain their future career goals.
  5. To establish collegial and mentor relationships between fellows and faculty.
  6. To advance collaboration and research with interdisciplinary and interprofessional teams.
