Hours of Operation, Scheduling, and Training

Hours of Operation and Location

Instrumentation in the Histology Core Facility is available 24 hours a day in accordance with policies established by Center of Biomedical Research Excellence principal investigator and the director of the Histology Core.

Normal working hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. In addition, users who have been trained and have been approved by the Histology Core staff to use equipment independently will have access to the facility at night and during the weekends.

The Histology Core is located within Suite W162 on the first floor of the UND School of Medical and Health Sciences. The CM1520 Cryostat is designated for BSL-2 tissue only and is located in room W157C on the first floor of the UND School of Medical and Heath Sciences.

Training

Specific training is conducted on an individual basis or in small groups. Training sessions are scheduled when the investigators, the Core facility personnel and the instruments are available. All users are required to obtain training on the instruments to be used to ensure the safety of the users, prevent equipment damage, and optimize results.  First time users must contact Donna Laturnus (701.777.6841, donna.laturnus@UND.edu) to schedule training. Once trained, users will be expected to utilize the Core facilities independently of the Core staff.

Scheduling

Requests from on-campus and off-campus users are scheduled as they are received. Users must receive training on the instrumentation before they are granted independent access to the facility. Users can schedule their time electronically, by clicking on the link provided: Scheduling

You will need a password to access the on-line sign up sheet.  A password will be assigned to users after he/she has completed the necessary amount of training determined by Histology Core staff.  Until users have been fully trained and receive their password, they are asked to contact the Histology Core technician to schedule training.

Users are responsible for showing up on time for their scheduled session. Users who are more than 20 minutes late for a session forfeit their time and users on a waiting list will be contacted.
