Faculty Guidelines
Upon arrival:
- Review simulation with the simulation technician or coordinator, make necessary adjustments
- Ensure that chart/forms are in simulation room
- Ensure notebook/pen are in simulation room
Upon arrival of learners:
- Assemble in debrief room; ensure that all participants sign in
- Explain to participants that this is a learning experience, and they will not be judged on their performance.
- Obtain signatures for permission to videotape if not done previously (these forms only need to be signed once, and they cover all simulations at center)
- Distribute role tags
- Read objectives if appropriate
- Distribute observation checklists to observers (face down), move to simulation room with active participants
- Orient participants to the room; encourage them to touch and listen to the mannequin, monitor, etc.
- Explain to participants they may use their cell phone to call a physician. Provide a number.
- Explain to participants that the patient’s temperature will be displayed on the monitor. There is no thermometer available. If they wish to take the temperature, they can say that out loud and the temperature will change if indicated.
- Read patient history, admission history, labs if appropriate.
- Read reports or have participants read reports depending on the scenario.
- Begin simulated scenario
- Debrief when simulated scenario is completed
Upon completion of debriefing:
- Have participants complete evaluation
- Permission to videotape forms and copy of sign in sheet to simulation center personnel
