Year One Curriculum
Transitional Year
The first year of residency is conducted almost exclusively at the Sanford Health Medical Center in Fargo, N.D. Our schedule is composed of 13, four-week block rotations. We pride ourselves in offering numerous elective blocks, to allow each resident to tailor their education to their own learning goals and objectives. A sample schedule can be found below.
Sample Rotation Schedule
ACGME Neurology program requirements (4.11.b) states, in programs offering a 48-month format, the first year of the program must provide broad clinical experiences in general medicine and include at least one of the following:
4.11.b.1. - Eight months in internal medicine with primary responsibility in patient care; or,
4.11.b.2 - Six months in internal medicine with primary responsibility in patient care, and a period of at least two months comprising one or more months of pediatrics, emergency medicine, internal medicine, or family medicine.
- Block 1: Team Based Inpatient Internal Medicine
- Block 2: Night Medicine (8pm-8am)/Research & Scholarly Activity (PBLI) - 2 weeks of each
- Block 3: Team Based Inpatient Internal Medicine
- Block 4: Elective
- Block 5: Critical Care Medicine (ICU)
- Block 6: Elective
- Block 7: Team Based Inpatient Internal Medicine
- Block 8: Elective
- Block 9: Team Based Inpatient Internal Medicine
- Block 10: Internal Medicine Ambulatory (140 hours)
- Block 11: Emergency Medicine (140 hours)
- Block 12: Elective
- Block 13: Team Based Inpatient Internal Medicine
