Adopt-a-Student Program

Since 2011, generous donors to the UND School of Medicine & Health Sciences have provided a variety of tools to students of several SMHS programs.

The program began with the Adopt-A-Med-Student, wherein donors to the School gifted a stethoscope to our first-year medical students.

Today, our "Adopt" program has expanded to include all of our School of Medicine & Health Sciences professional programs.

“Adopting” a student from the programs below provides

  • Athletic Training: Membership in the National Athletic Trainers Association
  • Biomedical Sciences: A white laboratory coat for work in the wet lab
  • Medical Students: A Littmann Stethoscope
  • Medical Laboratory Science: A student membership in the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science
  • Occupational Therapy: Physical copies of Willard & Spackman’s Occupational Therapy and the fourth edition of Occupational Therapy Practice Framework: Domain and Process
  • Physician Assistant: An embroidered white coat
  • Physical Therapy: A durable gear bag for holding tools useful to the practicing physical therapist
  • Public Health: A student membership in the American Public Health Association

We encourage donors to write letters to the students to be included with their gifts, and students of course write back! Our goal is to provide a lasting, supportive connection between students and donors-mentors.

How do I participate?

Gifts of $100, $250, or any amount per student can be:

  1. Mailed to the UND Alumni Association & Foundation, 3501 University Ave., Stop 8157, Grand Forks, ND, 58202. Please notes like “Stethoscope” or "PA white coat" in the memo line, or
  2. Submitted through the UND Alumni Association & Foundation website.

Letters to students can be included in Option 1 above or emailed to kristen.peterson@UND.edu. Notes can be given to students also via the online giving form.

Thank you very much for donating my stethoscope. It means a lot to know that there are generous donors like yourself who care about the education and future of medical students.Jacob Tupa, Larimore, N.D.M.D. Class of 2026
