Note: for purposes of this policy, “faculty” refers to individuals employed by the UND SMHS and is considered benefited employees.
- Faculty and residents/fellows of UNDSMHS may not accept gifts from pharmaceutical or device manufacturer representatives. This applies to food and meals except at CME events in compliance with ACCME standards with a value greater than the amount of the per diem allowed by the UND for lunch.
- Residents/fellows can meet with representatives only for educational purposes and under the supervision of a faculty member.
- Industry support for scholarships and stipends should be given to UNDSMHS, which should have sole responsibility for selection of recipients.
- Industry support for CME should meet ACCME standards.
- In healthcare facilities operated by the UND SMHS, pharmaceutical representative meetings with individual physicians must take place in designated non-public, non-patient care areas by appointment or invitation.
- Faculty and residents/fellows must not allow any part of their professional presentations, oral or written, to be ghostwritten by any other party.
- Faculty and residents/fellows must not participate for personal compensation in industry-sponsored speakers’ bureaus.
- Faculty consulting relationships with industry are subject to the University’s Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy. In addition, such relationships must be reported to the Office of the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.
- While these policies do not apply to volunteer faculty not employed by and teaching settings not operated by the UND SMHS, such faculty and settings are expected to support the policies set forth for residents/fellows and to demonstrate high professional standards in their interactions with industry representatives in teaching settings.
