New Faculty
Seven new faculty members joined the Department of Surgery recently.
- Syed Osman Ali, M.D., clinical instructor of surgery, is a cardiovascular and thoracic
surgeon at Altru Health System in Grand Forks. He joined the UND Surgery Department
faculty Dec. 2, 2013. Dr. Ali received his Medical Doctor degree from Aga Khan University
in Pakistan. He completed his general surgery residency at the University of Connecticut
and his cardiothoracic surgery residency at Loyola University.
- Aaron J. Chalmers, M.D., clinical instructor of surgery, is a general and vascular
surgeon at Mid Dakota Clinic in Bismarck. Dr. Chalmers joined the UND Surgery Department
on Aug. 26, 2013. He earned his M.D. at UND and completed his residency at the University
of Wisconsin in Madison.
- Roxanne R. Keene, M.D., clinical instructor of surgery, is an orthopedic surgeon at
Mercy Medical Center in Williston. She joined the UND Department of Surgery on May
10, 2013. Dr. Keene is an alumna of the UND School of Medicine & Health Sciences,
where she earned her M.D.. She completed her orthopedic surgery residency at Southern
Illinois University.
- S.M. Farhan Khan Galzie, M.D., clinical instructor of surgery, is the director of
robotic urologic surgery at Essentia Health in Fargo. He joined the UND Surgery Department
on May 1, 2013. Dr. Khan Galzie earned his M.D. from J.J.M. Medical College at Devangere,
Karnataka, India. He completed his residency in Urology at the University of California
in Irvine.
- Jay M. MacGregor, M.D., is an instructor of surgery and director of surgical education,
as well as a colon and rectal surgeon at Sanford Health in Fargo. Dr. MacGregor joined
the UND Surgery Department on Nov. 18, 2013. He earned his M.D. from Carver College
of Medicine at the University of Iowa. Dr. MacGregor is a recent graduate of the UND
Surgery Residency Program (2011) and went on to complete a fellowship in clinical
colon and rectal surgery at the Orlando Regional Medical Center in Orlando, Fla.
- Stephen D. Markewich, M.D., clinical instructor of surgery, is an anesthesiologist
at St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck. He joined the UND Surgery Department on
Aug. 26, 2013. Dr. Markewich earned his M.D. from the Medical University of the Americas
in the West Indies. He completed his residency in the Department of Anesthesiology
at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.
- Thomas G. Wambach, M.D., clinical instructor of surgery, is a general surgeon at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Fargo. He joined the UND Surgery Department on May 10, 2013. Dr. Wambach is an alumnus of the UND School of Medicine & Health Sciences, where he earned his M.D. and also graduated from the UND Surgery Residency Program in 1999.
