Surgical Anatomy

Structure (anatomy) supports function (physiology). Incorrect structure may lead to improper function.

In response to surgery resident input, the University of North Dakota (UND) surgical anatomy lab was created in 1997. The curriculum is continuously reworked to address resident learning. It is now an established year-long course consisting of 76 operative procedures. Residents perform operative procedures in teams to simulate an operating room (OR) environment.

The goal of the lab is improved training in the OR through better structural understanding.

Tell me and I forget; show me and I remember; let me do and I understand. This phrase written by a wise person is the basis for the operative training in the surgical anatomy lab at the University of North Dakota.
