Year One Curriculum

Transitional Year

The first year of residency is conducted almost exclusively at the Sanford Health Medical Center in Fargo, N.D.  Our newly built schedule is composed of 13, four-week block rotations.  We pride ourselves in offering numerous elective blocks, to allow each resident to tailor their education to their own learning goals and objectives.  A sample schedule can be found below.

Sample Rotation Schedule

ACGME Neurology program requirements (IV.C.4.) states, in programs offering a 48-month format, the first year of the program must provide broad clinical experiences in general medicine and include at least one of the following:

IV.C.4.a) - Eight months in internal medicine with primary responsibility in patient care, or

IV.C.4.b) - Six months in internal medicine with primary responsibility in patient care, and a period of at least two months comprising one or more months of pediatrics, emergency medicine, internal medicine, or family medicine.

 

  • Block 1: Team Based Inpatient Internal Medicine
  • Block 2: Night Medicine (8pm-8am)/Research & Scholarly Activity (PBLI) - 2 weeks of each
  • Block 3: Team Based Inpatient Internal Medicine
  • Block 4: Elective
  • Block 5: Critical Care Medicine (ICU)
  • Block 6: Elective
  • Block 7: Team Based Inpatient Internal Medicine
  • Block 8: Elective
  • Block 9: Team Based Inpatient Internal Medicine
  • Block 10: Internal Medicine Ambulatory (140 hours)
  • Block 11: Emergency Medicine (140 hours)
  • Block 12: Elective
  • Block 13: Team Based Inpatient Internal Medicine
