Graduate Medical Education Institutional Policy
Residents as Teachers
Policy: Annually, a workshop on "Residents as Teachers" will be included in the mandatory orientation program for all new residents. The objectives of this workshop will be to develop skills in clinical teaching and evaluation of medical students.
All new residents will also be required to complete a GMEC (Graduate Medical Education Committee) approved learning module on Residents as Teachers within a time frame approved by the GMEC.
Compliance with participation in these activities will be tracked by the GME Office and reported to the GMEC annually.
Each residency program must ensure that residents are familiar with the educational objectives for any clinical clerkship or course in which the residents participate as teachers or supervisors. Each program will be required to document how they ensure that their residents are familiar with these educational objectives as part of the program's annual report to the GMEC.
