New Faculty
Nine new faculty members joined the Department of Surgery recently.
- Ralph A. Highshaw, M.D., clinical assistant professor of surgery, is a urologist on
the Northeast Campus in Grand Forks, N.D. He trained at the Los Angeles County University
of Southern California Medical Center in Los Angeles, Calif., completing a PGY 1-2
general surgery/urology residency at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, Calif.,
and PGY 3-6 in the Department of Urology there. He is board certified in urology.
- Marc E. Eichler, M.D., clinical assistant professor of surgery, is a neurosurgeon
on the Southeast Campus in Fargo, N.D. He trained at the Washington University School
of Medicine in St. Louis, Mo., for his neurosurgery residency and did fellowship training
at the University of Southern California School of Medicine in Los Angeles, Calif.
He is board certified in neurosurgery.
- Theresa A. Hegge, M.D., clinical instructor of surgery, is a plastic surgeon on the
Northwest Campus in Williston, N.D. She completed her plastic surgery residency at
Southern Illinois University in Springfield, Ill. She is board eligible.
- Kayla Burchill, M.D., clinical instructor of surgery, is a general surgeon on the
Southeast Campus in Fargo, N.D. She completed her general surgery residency at the
UND School of Medicine & Health Sciences in Grand Forks, N.D. She is board certified
in general surgery.
- Jeffrey A. Horak, M.D., F.A.C.S., clinical instructor of surgery is a general surgeon
in Fergus Falls, Minn. He completed his general surgery residency at William Beaumont
Hospital in Royal Oak, Mich. He is board certified in general surgery.
- Sapoora Manshaii, M.D., clinical assistant professor of surgery, is a general surgeon
with Surgical Critical Care in Alexandria, Minn. She completed her general surgery
residency at St Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. She also did a fellowship
in surgical critical care at the University of Maryland in Baltimore, Md. She is board
certified in general surgery and critical care.
- Tong Yang, M.D., clinical instructor of surgery, is a neurosurgeon on the Southeast
Campus in Fargo, N.D. She completed her neurosurgery residency at the University of
Washington in Seattle. She also did a fellowship in pediatric neurosurgery at the
Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles in California. She is board eligible.
- Joshua J. Knudson, M.D., clinical instructor of surgery, is a general surgeon on the
Southwest Campus in Bismarck, N.D. He completed his general surgery residency at the
TriHealth Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is board certified in general
surgery.
- Joshua G. Yorgason, M.D., clinical instructor of surgery, is an ear, nose and throat surgeon on the Southwest Campus in Bismarck, N.D. He trained at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City for his otolaryngology, head and neck surgery residency. He did a fellowship in neurotology at the Paparella Ear, Head and Neck Institute at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. He is board certified in otolaryngology (head and neck surgery).
